How to Choose a Web Developer in Tanzania: 7 Questions to Ask

5 October 2026 · 4 min read

A website is an investment, and the wrong choice can cost you time and money. These seven questions help you compare developers fairly.

1. Can I see work you have done?

Ask for live links, not only screenshots. Open them on your phone and check that they load quickly and look good on a small screen.

2. Who owns the domain and the hosting?

The domain name and hosting account should be registered in your name or your organisation's name, so you can move to another developer later without losing your website.

3. Will the site work well on phones?

Most visitors in Tanzania use a phone. Your site should be designed for small screens first and load fast on slow connections.

4. What is included, and what will it cost?

Ask for a written quote that lists the pages, features, number of revisions and what is not included. Be careful with prices that are far lower than everyone else's.

5. How long will it take?

Agree on a timeline with dates for design, review and launch, and what you need to provide (text, photos, logo) so the project is not delayed.

6. What happens after launch?

  • Ask who fixes problems and how quickly.
  • Ask about backups, security updates and training for your staff.
  • Ask what monthly support costs, if anything.

7. Do I own the content and the data?

You should own your text, images and any data collected through your website or system. Put this in writing.
